We have some swallowtails that have overwintered in our puparium and they are now emerging one by one as the days get longer. We have mood lighting in our butterfly house and I get a kick out of seeing our butterflies roost in the trees. Yes! Send pictures.

ElizabethElizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06566882797178643000noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2283528857506452817.post-81727891551115702152010-02-08T11:09:20.125-07:002010-02-08T11:09:20.125-07:00Hi Emma,

We've got bananas growing and the jasmine has been blooming. The winter blooming orchids are great too. We should be getting pupa this Friday and our butterfly house should have some activity this weekend. We'd love to have you visit.

ElizabethElizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06566882797178643000noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2283528857506452817.post-87844049516034424162010-02-07T17:30:02.044-07:002010-02-07T17:30:02.044-07:00Hi Elizabeth, hopefully you will be getting some b...Hi Elizabeth, hopefully you will be getting some butterflies from south Florida soon. They are rebounding here and plants are recovering also. I did not introduce myself, I'm Mary Collins, Senior Horticulturist at Fairchild. Zebras in my own yard gather at dusk and sleep perched on dead leaves or stems. I can send a photo if you would like. I have family in Miami and we always seem to be driving by at night. Our butterfly farmers are all in southern Florida and we haven't been able to have any in the butterfly house for about a month. We do fly zebras. I like them because they are very friendly. As soon as the snow melts off here we'll be adding more of the crazy desert plants we love so much. Keep checking the blog. It will be more pictures, less music.Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06566882797178643000noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2283528857506452817.post-43998767378184914632010-02-02T15:12:31.163-07:002010-02-02T15:12:31.163-07:00Hi Elizabeth. I visited the area the summer of 2001 prior to attending the AABGA (now APGA) American Public Gardens Association. I am currently in south Florida, where I work at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. I loved the dryness and incredible scenery of the Grand Junction area. We did have cold weather in S. Florida - at the garden we had 4 nights that had temps below 40°. We hadn't had temps like this since 1989! Do you have zebra butterflies in your conservatory? They are one of the more beautiful ones found down here. Best wishes to you all!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2283528857506452817.post-18257631810360491852009-04-03T11:32:00.000-06:002009-04-03T11:32:00.000-06:00Where are the high quality photos that I want to s...Where are the high quality photos that I want to see on this blog?

Just wondering.Quinlanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07845574464418636300noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2283528857506452817.post-66718536074590599682009-03-17T13:44:00.000-06:002009-03-17T13:44:00.000-06:00Glad to see you are back!Glad to see you are back!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2283528857506452817.post-19017419589578661562009-01-10T08:52:00.000-07:002009-01-10T08:52:00.000-07:00Just wait until I get a real digital camera!Just wait until I get a real digital camera!Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06566882797178643000noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2283528857506452817.post-13875913265593026632009-01-09T09:41:00.000-07:002009-01-09T09:41:00.000-07:00I like the new and improved photos on the site.Ste...I like the new and improved photos on the site.

SteveAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2283528857506452817.post-12829973082566580112008-12-11T18:00:00.000-07:002008-12-11T18:00:00.000-07:00Thank you Emily. Yes, sounds like a fantastic "testing" site for everything, including Plant Select plants. I remember when Merle Moore was Horticulture Director at the Denver Zoo - he called it "guerilla horticulture." (It was sort of a play on words, get it?)
